Seva Food Back (Seva) is an initiative of Sikhs Serving Canada that intends to address the challenges of food security, poverty reduction and economic renewal in the communities it serves.
Sikhs Serving Canada
A society in which the inherent divinity and sovereignty of every individual is recognized and cultivated so that everyone is able to fulfill their true potential.
Launch and manage a portfolio of initiatives that mobilizes the goodwill of Canadians to address the needs of our local communities.
Sarbat Da Bhalla (The Well Being of All)
Every individual is divine. It is our inherent responsibility to look after each other in our community so no one is left behind.
Seva (Selfless Service)
Each of us has a responsibility to give back in any way we can. We serve with humility, compassion and gratitude, treating everyone equitably with dignity and respect.
Chardi Kala (Eternal Optimism)
Tomorrow will be better than today. We inject this optimism into all our interactions and plans.
Diversity and Inclusion
Diverse values, beliefs, and behaviours, and social, cultural and linguistic needs of all communities will be considered in the services and supports that they require. These needs are integral to ensuring that our communities have access to and participate in all levels of our mission-based projects, activities and organizations.
Transparency and Accountability
Our stakeholders receive relevant information in an accessible and timely manner that ensures we answer for our actions and commitments.
Client-centric and community-informed
Our solutions are developed and implemented through engaging and involving the community.
Seva Food Bank
Coordinate and deliver programs that improve the food security* needs of our clients and support them in their journey to self-reliance by addressing the root causes of their hunger.
All people living in the communities we serve have access to a culturally appropriate and personally acceptable supply of food.
III. Strategic Priorities
Five strategic directions have been identified for Seva through a strategic planning process. These directions will contribute to achieving the vision while operating consistently with the Vision, Mission, and Values of Sikhs Serving Canada. This will enable Seva to continue to build on its strengths and be responsive to the needs and opportunities of the communities it serves.
- Ensure equitable access to safe, nutritious and culturally appropriate food to people experiencing or at risk of poverty in the communities we serve.
- Develop programs that reduce the causes and consequences of food insecurity.
- Inform public policy and mobilize leaders and communities to reduce the impact of food insecurity.
- Ensure a sustainable business model that is disciplined, robust and ensures long-term revenue growth.
- Build Seva’s organizational capacity to support the strategic priorities and future growth.
