Thank you to all applications for committee chairs for our 2013 volunteer committees. Candidates selected for positions will be contacted by Friday February 22, 2013 .
We have established the following volunteer committees to manage the various food bank functions. Each committee is composed of experienced Seva Food Bank volunteers and is led by our senior volunteers.
If you have been volunteering at the Seva Food Bank and are interested in joining one of the committees, please notify Rohit Mehta, Volunteer Engagement Coordinator by emailing volunteer@sevafoodbank.com
Program Planning – this committee is responsible for identifying opportunities for client programming at the Seva Food Bank, and executing those programs.
Volunteers with a background in developing and facilitating client programs, experience in the social service and non-profit sector, and those who can speak to the needs of our client community are welcomed.
Fundraising – this committee is responsible for raising money to fund all operations of the Seva Food Bank. They brainstorm and develop fundraising events, work with third parties to organize fundraisers, participate in community events, maintain all records for donations and process tax receipts. The committee meets monthly.
Volunteers with experience in fundraising for small or large organizations, experience with donor relations, special events planning and maintaining records are welcomed.
Operations – this committee oversees the logistical processes behind receiving food at the Seva Food Bank, and will develop a flow that allows for food to reach clients in an efficient manner. Tasks include planning and reconfiguring the layout of the warehouse, shelves, labels, and systems to make the process of giving food more seamless. The committee meets as needed, usually twice per month.
Volunteers who have over 25 hours of experience in the warehouse and a desire to improve day-to-day operations at the food bank are welcomed.
Food Raising – this *new committee* is responsible for soliciting food donations for the Seva Food Bank. Volunteers will need to brainstorm ideas for food drives and connect with individual and corporate donors to bring a consistent supply of priority items into the food bank. This committee is responsible for organizing and managing campaigns such as “Grow a Row” and “Farm Gleaning”. Initially, committee meetings will be held once per month.
Volunteers with experience in event planning, working with corporate volunteers, and large-scale community efforts are welcomed. We also welcome volunteers interested in gardening and local food.
Media and Communications – this *new committee* is responsible for the face of the Seva Food Bank to our community. All website, facebook, twitter, and external communications will be supported by these volunteers. Tasks may include updating social networking sites, liaising with the media, and capturing and posting event photos. The committee will meet monthly.
Volunteers with experience in social networking, website design and maintenance, writing/blogging for organizations, photography, film-making, working with the media, marketing and communications experience are welcomed.
